Keep Your MetaTrader Running After a VPS Restart

Want your MetaTrader setup to come back automatically after your VPS restarts?

The MetaTrader AutoStart tool makes this possible by automatically signing in to your Windows account and opening the MetaTrader terminals you choose.

Once enabled, your VPS can follow this sequence automatically:

Restart → Windows AutoLogon → MetaTrader launches

This can be useful when your VPS is restarted unexpectedly or after maintenance, as you won’t need to manually log back in and open each trading terminal.

The tool automatically looks for MT4 and MT5 installations on your VPS, allowing you to select the ones you want to start.

Please note: Enabling this feature also enables automatic Windows sign-in. If someone has appropriate access to your VPS console or remote session while Windows is at the login screen, they may be able to access the account without entering its password. Please make sure you’re comfortable with this before enabling AutoStart.

Setting Up AutoStart

1. Open the AutoStart Tool

Start the MetaTrader AutoStart Setup tool.

You’ll see your Windows username already entered under Target User.

The tool will also show the MetaTrader terminals it found on your VPS.

Choose the terminals you’d like to start automatically by ticking their checkboxes.

Don’t worry if your list doesn’t look exactly like the screenshot. The terminals shown depend on what’s installed on your VPS.

For example, if you have:

  • MT4 from Broker A
  • MT5 from Broker A
  • MT4 from Broker B

All three may appear in the list. Just select the ones you actually want to launch after a restart.

2. Enter Your Windows Password

Enter your Windows account password in the Password field.

Then click the green Setup button.

A confirmation message will appear once the setup has been completed.

Click OK to close it.

Your Windows account is now configured to sign in automatically, and the selected MetaTrader terminals will be launched afterward.

3. Change Your Settings Later

You don’t have to make the perfect selection the first time.

You can open the AutoStart tool again whenever you need to make changes.

A terminal that’s already configured will be shown as (Configured).

After the success message closes, you can reopen the AutoStart Setup tool at any time to see your current configuration. Terminals that are already set up will show as (Configured) in the list, as seen below with MT4.

Want to add another terminal?

☑ Check its box and click Setup.

Don’t want a terminal to start anymore?

☐ Uncheck it and click Setup.

Turning AutoStart Off

If you decide you no longer want automatic sign-in and MetaTrader startup, you can turn everything off from the same application.

1. Click “Disable”

Open the MetaTrader AutoStart Setup tool.

Click the red Disable button.

You’ll be shown a warning before the change is made.

Click OK if you want to disable AutoStart.

Click Cancel if you’ve changed your mind.

Important: Turning off AutoStart also turns off Windows AutoLogon. You’ll need to manually enter your Windows login details the next time the VPS restarts.

2. Finish the Process

After disabling the feature, you’ll receive a confirmation that both MetaTrader AutoStart and Windows AutoLogon have been turned off.

Click OK to finish

Quick Guide

If you want to…Do this

One Last Recommendation

If you’re using your VPS for automated trading, we recommend testing the AutoStart configuration once after setting it up.

This lets you confirm that:

  • Windows signs in correctly.
  • Your selected MetaTrader terminals open.
  • Your EAs are running as expected.

That way, you know your setup is ready before you rely on it after a future restart.
