How to Locate Log Files in MetaTrader 4 or 5

MetaTrader 5 stores its log files inside the platform’s Data Folder, accessible directly from the File menu. This guide shows you where to find both terminal logs and Expert Advisor logs on your ForexVPS.

Before you start: Terminal logs and Expert Advisor logs are stored in two different subfolders — this guide covers both locations.

What you’ll need

  • MetaTrader 5 installed and open on your ForexVPS

Part 1: Open the Data Folder

Step 1: Click File in the top menu bar

Select Open Data Folder from the dropdown menu.

Part 2: Find your log files

Step 3: Locate the logs folder

A new window opens — this is your MT5 Data Folder. Inside that folder, you’ll see a folder called logs.

Step 4: Open the logs folder

Click the logs folder to see your log files, which correspond to what’s shown in your MT5 Journal tab.

If you also want to check logs from Expert Advisors, go to the MQL5 folder and open the Logs subfolder to find your archived Expert Advisor logs.
